Jax Pax Packs: Bug Out Belt

You probably haven't heard of Jax Pax, but I do enjoy showing off quality gear from lessor known folks. This setup here is pretty unique in which most Bug out / Bail out rigs are shoulder bags, however this unit went with a belt + integrated thigh rig setup. It can look a little wacky at first, but the big advantage is that one can run with this rig on and still access the majority of the pockets.

The actual belt is simple 1.5" webbing with a SRB buckle, then the nylon parts consist of a butt pack and 2 thigh rigs, each separate from the other. The thigh rigs are very similar, yet do have some lil differences on the insides. The main pockets of the thigh rigs are basically generous sized GP pouches (Approx 10.5" x 7" x 4.5"). The exteriors have PALS webbing made of cordura strips to match the camo perfectly while allowing further pouch attachment. Double zippers allow access and inside is nice loop velcro field to attach the included modular holster. The holster is even designed to be mounted for right or left handed shooters. To change things up, the right thigh rig has a velcro flap pocket sized about for a PDA-like item with a shallow sleeve pocket while the left thigh rig has a similar flap pocket sized for multitools / flashlights / pistol mags. The left also includes a classic snap hook and similar sleeve pocket that is divided into 2 sections. SRB compression straps are integrated into these main thigh pockets and even include integrated slack management velcro straps. The way these main pockets are sewn onto the thigh platforms, creates a nice deep sleeve pocket for anything the user would like to quickly access. There is plenty of room for knives or pistols, however no loop velcro inside. For even more options, the actual thigh platform has a single zippered pocket for a similar, yet more secure pocket. Some may not like that this pocket only has a single zipper, however it does allow for a wider opening. These platforms include some padding to the wearer's thighs to help keep things comfortable even while heavily loaded up. Each thigh rig also includes leg straps for stability. Since the overall design wraps around the main belt so much, having only 1 leg strap is sufficient. Although not for quick access, the butt pack area offers a good amount of space. Using a 2 zipper opening, the inside is plain jane with a size approx 11" x 10" x 4". Loop velcro is on the exterior for any desired patches or name tapes. A spare set of clothes can easily be rammed in inside, but as a warning don't get too carried away with the weight as this pocket will flop around during heavy movement like most butt packs.

As an end result I think the Bug out Belt offers something new and worthwhile. If planning on needing to react while bugging out, one could totally load themselves up with multiple pistols, ammo, and knives in this kit. Unlike a shoulder bag, all items could be secured and accessible while literally on the run. Priority items will fit well in the thigh rigs while sustainment gear can be placed in the butt pack. The Main down side would be the butt pack would get in the way during vehicle travel, yet can be taken off or just not filled up. I'd also like to note the no messing around quality. For example the main border binding is sewn down twice and then has a zig-zag stitch on top for good measure. If this kit catches your eye, be sure and check out Jax Pax's site to see what all else he is up to.
